Primary Plastics-Processing Equipment in Review

Manufacturers of plastics-processing machinery seemed to save their best for news for K 2007, unveiling a steady stream of new models, product enhancements, and process improvements at the global trade show held October 24-31 in Düsseldorf, Germany. In many cases, the advantages offered by these new machines make an excellent argument for replacing older, less efficient equipment. This report takes a look at the latest machinery for injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and blow molding.

Practical Energy Savings
Cutting energy waste and increasing efficiency don't necessarily require major changes.

Reducing energy use during plastics processing is obviously a good idea, especialy when one considers the widespread desire to lower power-plant emissions. But waste-energy reduction is also part of the broader strategy of lean manufacturing, a methodology that some say is still underused in the plastics industry. This article focuses on energy-saving ideas that don't require totally retooling an operation.
