Machinery Annual Primary Plastics-Processing Equipment in Review Manufacturers of plastics-processing machinery seemed to save their best for news for K 2007, unveiling a steady stream of new models, product enhancements, and process improvements at the global trade show held October 24-31 in Düsseldorf, Germany. In many cases, the advantages offered by these new machines make an excellent argument for replacing older, less efficient equipment. This report takes a look at the latest machinery for injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming and blow molding. By Richard Stewart |

| Practical Energy Savings Cutting energy waste and increasing efficiency don't necessarily require major changes. Reducing energy use during plastics processing is obviously a good idea, especialy when one considers the widespread desire to lower power-plant emissions. But waste-energy reduction is also part of the broader strategy of lean manufacturing, a methodology that some say is still underused in the plastics industry. This article focuses on energy-saving ideas that don't require totally retooling an operation. By Michael Tolinski |
